Custom Swimming Pool Builders in Auckland

Custom swimming pools for local conditions.

Built to Last

Durable Concrete pools use D12 reinforced steel and a minimum of 30MPa shotcrete, making them some of the most robust pools available.

Design Freedom

Create any shape, size, or finish—from luxury to minimal. From cozy plunge pools to expansive layouts, nothing’s off the table.

Hydraulic Precision

Invisible systems at work. Advanced water control and flow rates ensure a silent, consistent edge with effortless efficiency.

Auckland’s a strange place to build a pool. Drive twenty minutes and you’ll go from solid volcanic rock under Mount Roskill to the kind of clay in Titirangi that swells up after rain and doesn’t behave itself. Throw in a sloping section near the Waitākere Ranges
(and there are plenty) and it quickly becomes obvious there’s no such thing as a “standard” pool design. We’ve been digging into this ground, literally, for 23+ years now. Enough to know which sites are going to need extra steel before we even get the digger out. So when people ask what makes one
custom pool builder different from the next, that’s really the answer: it comes down to whether they’re designing for your section or just quoting off a template.

What Custom Swimming Pool Builders Actually Do

A custom pool builder designs and builds a pool for one specific site, instead of dropping a catalogue shape into your backyard. That’s what we do. Every Precision Pools shell is sprayed concrete (shotcrete) over D12 steel reinforcing, with the concrete rated to a minimum of 30MPa. Fibreglass shells and steel-panel liner pools come in set sizes, so your section has to fit the pool. With concrete, it’s the other way round. Steep bank? Tight side access? A boundary closer than you’d like? We can work with all of that. So if you’re comparing swimming pool builders Auckland wide, ask one question first: what’s the shell actually made of?

Built for Auckland's Ground, Not Just Your Backyard

Here’s the part most quotes skip. Auckland’s ground changes fast. One street can sit on volcanic basalt, the next over on sedimentary rock, and a bit further on you’re into reactive clay that won’t sit still. A pool shell built for flat, solid ground in one suburb can end up cracking or shifting two kilometres away, on a site that looked pretty similar on paper. As a pool builder Auckland homeowners call for tricky sections, we adjust footing depth, steel reinforcing and drainage design to what the site actually gives us, not to a standard template. It’s slower than a one-size install. It’s also why our pools are still watertight decades later.

The Build Process, Start to Swim

Site visit and design. We walk the section with you before anything is drawn.

  • Council consent, with our help preparing and lodging the application where required, so you’re not chasing paperwork between excavation and spraying the shell.
  • Excavation and steel fixing, shaped and reinforced to your site’s engineering report.
  • Shotcrete shell, cured properly rather than rushed to meet an install date.
  • Tiling, coping and your chosen pool finish, from plaster to pebble.
  • Filtration, fencing and handover, with a walkthrough of how everything runs.

23+ Years, Built on Local Trust

Precision Pools is based in Ararimu and works across greater Auckland, fully insured, with the same local team on site from first dig to final swim. Willy Jones has run pool builds and renovations here for 23+ years, and it shows in the reviews: families in Howick, Herne Bay, Pakuranga, Remuera and Pt Chevalier have trusted us with new builds and full pool renovations alike, including jobs where a previous pool was leaking or badly plastered before we touched it. Recent work sits in our gallery if you want to see the finish quality before you call: the Mason project (a full renovation), the Pania project (a new build) and the Victoria project, a 360° vanishing-edge infinity pool.

Consent and Pool Fencing Rules in Auckland

Most Auckland homeowners ask about consent before design even starts, so here’s the direct answer. Under Auckland Council guidance, an in-ground or on-ground pool of 35,000 litres or less generally doesn’t need a building consent for the shell itself. The barrier is different. Any pool 400mm deep or more needs a barrier under Building Code Clause F9, and that barrier needs a building consent. Resource consent is the one that catches people out. Depending on how close the pool sits to your boundary and other buildings, you may need one. If your neighbours give written approval, a Deemed Permitted Boundary Activity application can sometimes replace it. We help you work out which consents your build needs and guide you through the application and inspections, so it isn’t left for you to untangle.

FAQs

How much does a custom concrete pool cost in Auckland?

Cost depends on site access, ground conditions, pool size and finish, so we don’t quote a fixed figure without seeing the section. We’ll give you a written, itemised quote after an onsite visit. No pressure to sign anything.

A typical custom pool builder timeline runs from initial design through council consent, excavation, the shotcrete spray and cure, and finishing. Weather, consent processing and site access all affect the schedule, and we’ll confirm realistic dates once your design is locked in.

Almost always for the fence, and it depends on the pool itself. Auckland Council lets in-ground pools of 35,000 litres or under skip building consent for the shell, but any pool 400mm deep or more needs a consented barrier under Building Code Clause F9. You may also need a resource consent if the pool sits close to a boundary.

A custom pool builder works out the shell to fit your site, not the other way around. Soil, slope, whatever’s going on underground, it all shapes the design before a shovel goes in the ground.

Yes. Reinforced concrete construction is well suited to sloping and constrained sites because the shell and footings are engineered per site rather than manufactured to a fixed shape. We assess access and slope during the initial site visit.

Yes. We resurface, replaster, re-tile and fix structural or plumbing issues on existing pools, alongside new custom builds. Several of our reviews come from renovation clients whose pools had leaking or failing plaster before we started.

Options include plaster, pebble and tiled finishes in a range of colours and textures, along with coping and surround choices. See our full pool finishes range or ask us to bring samples to your site visit.
